Autumn Speaker Programme

Updated: Aug 2

We are starting off our full speaker programme this year on Wednesday 17th July.

The speaker programme is open to everyone to join Rotary Members and guests. We have a speaker on the 3rd Wednesday of every month (excepting December) at 6:30pm at The Queen Elizabeth, Elmley Castle. Full details are on https://www.pershorerotary.club/events

Wednesday 17th July

- Subject: Pershore Riverside Centre

- Speaker: Brad Edmunds

Youth Manager Bradley Edmunds brings a wealth of Youth work experience, knowledge and is a JNC Level 6 qualified Youth and community worker. He joined the Riverside Centre in September 2015 during his Youth and community degree and has stuck with them ever since! Brad heads a dedicated team of seven sessional youth workers, including SEND specialists; a professional Counsellor, plus volunteers and student placements when available. He will be talking to us about the work of the Riverside Centre in Pershore. Brad and his team they work with 7 to 13 year olds, who voluntarily engage with the Centre for informal help. To undertake this, the Centre offer an holistic approach either directly where they have the skills to do so, or by sign posting to expertise. Such topics include school education and life skills, mental health challenges, special needs, identifying skill sets, career advice and Princes Trust work.

Wednesday 21st August

- Subject: The Ombersley Conservation Trust

- Speaker: Rtn. Richard Williams

Two things you may not know about Ombersley is that firstly a large part of the historic Conservation Area is held in a Trust and secondly our own Pershore Rotary member, Richard Williams, is one of the trustees.

Richard is well known for his, and his wife Janet's, beautiful garden in Bricklehampton. Richard is also involved in many other voluntary services in the area, and with his inside knowledge of The Ombersley Trust, this sounds to be a really interesting talk. How it came to be a Trust, what does that mean in terms of conservation and the people who live in these listed buildings, and many other interesting facts about the village.

Wednesday 18th September

- Subject: Parkinson's UK

- Speaker: Martyn Palmer from "The Evesham and Pershore Parkinson's Friendship Group"

This year Parkinson's UK has been nominated by President Peter Gardner as his charity for the Pershore Rotary Year.

Most of us know someone who has Parkinson's, someone who is living and supporting someone with Parkinson's or, sadly, someone who has died with Parkinson's.

“The Evesham & Pershore Parkinson’s Friendship Group offers information, friendship and support to local people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers. We are part of the Worcester and District Branch of Parkinson’s UK. We organise regular events and social activities. Join us – and meet other people affected by Parkinson’s in our area.”

We are very lucky to have Martyn, who has lived in Bishampton for the last 25 years and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 8 years ago, who is joining us and will give us a brief overview of Parkinson’s UK, an insight into the local activities of the Evesham & Pershore Parkinson’s Friendship Group and some personal thoughts on living with Parkinson’s.

If you would like to join us for any or all of these talks please contact the Secretary on 07774 466209 or find more details on https://www.pershorerotary.club/events
