Loved Ones Remembered

Updated: Apr 6, 2022

Mahatma Ghandi wrote ‘You don’t know who is important in life until you actually lose them’, and we’ve lost many dear loved ones in recent years.

Pershore Rotary’s Tree of Remembrance Appeal 2021 gave everyone the opportunity to remember those that were important to us, but no longer with us. Christmas 2021 was difficult for many families and made worse by the Omicron variant. However, the community showed its resilience and generosity by increasing the funds received by 40%.

Pershore Rotary President, Lucy Thornton said, “We had a great response to our Christmas Appeal and we are truly grateful to everyone involved. We will now donate £1,400 to St Richard’s Hospice, £1,400 to Acorns Children’s Hospice and a further £1,400 to our own Pershore Rotary Grants Scheme (PRoGS) to help individuals and local community groups.”

Appeal organiser, Bob Marchant, said “It made a big difference being able to collect outside Asda and the Co-op once again. We had an excellent response to our Appeal notices in the Pershore Times and we are very grateful for the support the paper gives us every year.”

President Lucy wanted to recognise the support and generosity of local businesses, particularly Ken Tallis (Abbey Butchers) for donating the Christmas tree in Broad Street and Pershore Town Council for lighting the tree.

She went on to say that “many small businesses have struggled to survive over the past two years and we want to record our gratitude to the following for their sponsorship, The Angel Hotel, PSG Bowdens Chartered Accountants, Briarlea Care Home, Clive Campion & Son Ltd, CJC (Worcester) Ltd, E Hill & Son Funeral Directors, Infinity Digital Agency, Johnsons Property Consultants, Jones & Associates Estate Agents, KC Carpets Ltd, Memory Lane Memorials Ltd, Riverside Fish Bar, Thomson & Bancks Solicitors, Union Estate Planning, Upper Snodsbury Post Office & Stores and Village Financial Solutions.”

With 1.4 million members, Rotary is one of the world’s largest humanitarian service organisations. If you can help us in Pershore to make a difference in our community, contact Kit Carson at secretary@pershorerotary.club or on 07747 117624.
