Pershore Rotary Club have launched an appeal, which we hope will be followed up by street collections this weekend in Pershore, to provide help for the over 900,000 (BBC news 2nd March 2022) refugees now leaving Ukraine for Poland, Romania and many other European Countries.
Rotary International said on Tuesday: "Following a meeting this afternoon with Rotary International General Secretary, John Hewko, which included more than 40 Rotarian leaders from Ukraine and neighbouring countries, plans have been put in place for Rotary to respond and support the horrific and ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine."
All the income from your donations will be sent to help the Rotary backed efforts including the Rotary Action Group for Refugees, Shelterbox and DEC, and will be specified to be used in supporting the Ukrainian Refugees displaced by the Russian invasion of their country.
Many of them only have the clothes they stand up in, or only enough baggage for a few clothes and essentials. Children have left their fathers behind and do not even have any toys to comfort them as their distressed mothers try to provide food and shelter.
In Pershore we are used to seeing and welcoming our neighbours from Eastern Europe, especially the regular fruit pickers.
This is an opportunity for us to give something back to the families of those friendly faces we see around who are now being displaced by war.
We know that the people of Pershore are willing to come to their aid in whatever ways we can.
Donating here is really easy and completely secure via stewardship.org.uk. If you are a UK taxpayer, please confirm that you would like to reclaim Gift Aid on your donation. This will add 25p to every £1 you give.
